Unspoiled beaches of Nuqui

Imagine… Unspoiled, wild beaches with coconut palms alongside a tropical rainforest, magnificent hikes, spotting 40-ton humpback whales, a special encounter with indigenous Emberá Indians or laidback local fisherman, relaxing in hot water springs, discovering animal species you have never seen before, swimming in crystal clear rivers, world-class surf and spending a few nights in a serene ecolodge whilst enjoying fresh (sea)food and home-grown frutas and vegetables: who is up for discovering the real Colombia cannot fail to pay a visit to Nuquí or Bahía Solano on its majestic Pacific coast.

Local indigenous kid

Strong Afro-Colombians are the main inhabitants of these two little villages, who arrived at this exotic location about four generations ago. The indigenous Indians of the Emberá tribe live more inland from the coastline, you will meet them during your hikes. And oh – in terms of outstanding nature, did you know that Nuquí and Bahía Solano are located in one of the world’s most biodiverse hotspots (the Chocó region)?

Combining all the above with the fact that both Nuquí and Bahía Solano still remain undiscovered by the large public means that it will be an unforgettable experience – far away from the modern hectic world. That these two destinations are less traveled roads is mainly caused by their remote location, only accessible by small airplanes (or a 24-hour boat ride from southern port city Buenaventura). Your adventure already starts in that small plane. During the 45-60 minute flight from Medellín you will be flying at a low altitude, resulting in breathtaking views of Colombia’s gorgeous rainforest and coastline all along.

Jungle walks at Utria NP

Discover the area with us and you will find yourself falling in love with the pristineness of this destination. We are sure that you will never leave any part of Colombia short of memories and exciting stories to tell your family and friends at home, but when visiting Nuquí or Bahía Solano add a little extraordinariness to those stories.

Humpback whales (also known as Yubarta whales): these giants turn op in the Pacific waters near Nuquí and Bahía Solano between July and October. ~ Climate: the word rainforest may have already given away an important piece of advice: it rains a lot in this area, almost every day of the year. It never gets cold though with an average temperature of 30 degrees year-round. Nature owes its beauty for a large part to this weather. Heavy rains usually last no longer than an …
